Today’s review is the Jensen JiMS-525i HD Radio docking station. You can charge, listen, tag, and watch videos, all in the dock for your iPod. With HD radio, and S-video out, this is more than your average night stand clock. For $150, you get a alarm clock packed with features. With iTunes tagging, you can keep a record of a song you like on the radio, transfer it to your iPod, and purchase the song later.

The sound quality could be better for 150 dollars. For only two basic non tweeters, the sound is as if you were wearing headphones. Very dull, noisy, bass-less sound. But hey, it’s really for waking you up, right? From the front, your able to set the two alarm clocks, the EQ, and function. The stereo supports aux in too. The bright 2.5 x 1 inch LCD displays your local weather(if you buy the supporting hardware, 25$ elsewhere) time, and your iPod charge status. I recommend lowering the brightness, you’ll be sorry at night if you don’t.

You can plug in your AM/FM antennas, S-Video out, AUX in, and headphones. S-Video quality is LAME, displaying the 400×300 screen size, and is terrible if you try to blow it up to fit the screen. Maybe because the iPod format? I’m really not sure on that part. Oh and a quick note, thats not a speaker output, that’s for the AM antenna.

Overall this is a good product, and great for a little nightstand device. The price is ok, and so is the sound quality.

My overall rating? 7.3 out of 10 stars!

Alright, so we know that David hasn’t been posting for a while (if you don’t know you should start paying more attention) but that’s okay, we’re gonna cut him some slack because he’s mourning over his Droid. So David doesn’t do the review, I’ve been tearing my house apart to find an accessory to review but I can’t find one so you shall enjoy (enjoying is optional) this one instead. Please remember that I still have to do my Christmas Review so if this review is really bad then comment on this post to get David to get out of his mourning. Now let’s continue.

Okay, as you can see, this an accessory review but I’m gonna compare two types of headphones. Now, one is for iPod, one for iPhone, which one is better? Let’s save the best for last, which means we’ll do the Pros first.

Classic iPod Earphones: Pros:

1. Fits great, doesn’t slip out easily.

2. Works for both devices

3. You can actually answer calls with it on the iPhone but for the caller to hear you shouting is necessary

iPhone Stereo Headset: Pros:

1. Calling feature works great

2. Answer/End calls with a super cool button on the headset

3. Pause/Play/Next song/Previous song with a super cool button on the headset

4. Easier to untangle

Now the cons (MWAHAHAHA) <— I think I’ve had too much coffee

Classic iPod Earphones: Cons:

1. SUPER hard to untangle, there’s less friction so it slips between knots easily

2. No super cool button on the earphone :(

iPhone Stereo Headset: Cons:

1. I don’t know if this is just my pair but they are SUPER loose, they fall out the second I put them in. Maybe it’s just my pair but I didn’t pay 35 bucks for some damn headphones that WON’T STAY IN. I rest my case

2. I find them to break more easily, actually it’s because my old pair broke which is why I bought this pair. THEY USED TO BE 20 DOLLARS! Just saying

One last note, the Classic iPod Earphones generally have a louder sound and the earphone itself is longer. It depends what you like so you can classify it yourself as pro or con.

Who wins? Okay, I would listen to the iPhone pair because I payed 35 BUCKS FOR IT but if I got both for free, it would be a difficult choice. I would say iPod earphones because they’re long enough for me to slip through my sleeve, put my hand at my ears like I’m slouching and listen during class :)

*Note to the reader* If you are currently pissed at Steven for writing such a terrible review remember that this is 1 in the morning and you can complain about it by emailing him at steven@ipwnage.com

We all know that David is usually the one who does the Accessory Reviews but he’s taking a one week vacation to enjoy his new DROID (I put it in caps cause that’s the way he would’ve wanted it). So instead, while David’s taking Tylenol to relieve his “DroidHangover” Disease, I’ll cover for him.

We’re gonna start with the most basic and most used accessory for the iDevice, a portable charger. Yes David has done many reviews on portable but either they’re too pricey or don’t work. Yes the Tekkeon TekCharge Mobile Power and Battery Charger is great and cheap but I have found it doesn’t charge smartphones such as the iPhone as well as it charges iPods or MP3’s and it uses batteries so I have found an alternative. RichardSolo 1800 WITH a cable. Great portable charger. Charges my iPhone at least 2 times. I once forgot to put my iPhone to sleep while charging and when I came back it was fully charged still with more than 20% juice left. For those of you who own an iPod with the headphone jack at the bottom the cable won’t block that out so you can still listen to music. This charger is lightweight, has a LED light and a laser pointer. You basically plug the RichardSolo 1800 into the wall at night, plug your iDevice into the RichardSolo 1800 and in the morning you’ll find both fully charged. The lights indicate when it’s charging or when there’s only 20% juice left in it. We’re not done yet, if you buy 2 of these you get 10 bucks off the original $69.95. The whole package contains the RS008 RichardSolo 1800, the iDevice USB cable, the car charger with two USB slots, the Apple connector cable, the wall adapter and a custom iPhone 3G case that comes free. It’s a great deal considering when you buy the car charger from Apple they charge you 20 bucks and when you buy it here you can use their car charger for your iDevice also. The only problem with this device is that it doesn’t work for iPod Shuffle and if you lose the iDevice USB cable you’re screwed. I also have to mention that the charging output is great. It’s the same output as if you were charging through a wall adapter or a computer.

RS008

I recently reviewed the Tekkeon Mobile Charger, and I was so impressed with it, I got this: The Tekkeon myPower MP3750. This, by far is THE best item I’ve ever had. I swear.

This charger is capable of charging a laptop and any USB powered appliance. Better yet, it’s expandable.

Specifications
Weight: 15.4 oz (or 32 oz with extendable battery)
Dimensions: 3.32″ (W) x 6.85″ (L) x .89″ (D)
Battery Type: Rechargeable lithium polymer
Lithium Content: 4 grams (MP3750)
4 grams (MP3450-10)
Charging Time: 4 hours
Voltage Selection: 10 to 19V for main output,
5V for USB port
Output Power: 50Wh

The extra usage time you get out of your laptop with the MP3750 depends on the kind of laptop you are using. A large 15″ laptop will gain about anywhere between one and two hours. My small 10″ netbook was able to run about 3 hours longer off a fully charged MP3750. However, you can purchase the expander and double your power (MP3750-10)

It’s $150 Dollars, there, I said it. The expander is gonna kill you with an extra $80. If your a business man who does constant cross-country flights, knock yourself out, this is the best item/charger that I’ve had. Now I haven’t had enough time to see how many times this charges the iPod touch or the iPhone from dead to full, but I can tell you I tried, and forgot to continue it after 5 charges. Buy a USB splicer and you can charge a GPS, cell phone, iPod touch, and a Bluetooth headset all at the same time, while your charging your laptop(Which I did)

My overall rating? 9 out of 10 stars(Price is pretty high)

We all know and love iHome for their iPhone and iPod products, but what happens when they mix it with the latest 5.1 surround sound stereo? You get the iHome iP1.

Sporting two woofers, the iP1 can play your beloved 50 cent beautifully. So lets get down the the specs.D

  • Component out
  • Two 4″ woofers
  • Two silk tweeters
  • 100 watts amp
  • Bongiovi audio decompression (That means studio quality folks)
  • ..and its got a pretty cool design

Well, decent at the most, but just the fact it is $299, that just blows it out of proportion. I rather buy something from Sony for $199 that has the same specs, and better. The sound is damn good though, for all you clarity freaks. If your dying for such, then just go buy it, but I rather stick with something else.

If you didn’t know already, the iHome comes with all adjustments for your iPod and iPhone, as well as the 30 pin dock (Duh) and charges your iDevice while docked.

My overall rating? 5.5 out of 10. (Price=demise)

Want to charge your iPhone and other accessories while on the run, and still be green? Icetech has your fix with the I101 Portable Solar Charger. For a few bucks, you can charge this little device’s battery with a small solar panel fixed to the matchbox sized battery.

First off, the discription is misleading. It notes that it will charger your iPod and other USB accessories. Bullsh!t. This charged nothing. Not even my enV2, my friends Razr, my iPod, or any other item I had. Let me say this now, there is NO, I repeat, NO good about this piece of junk. I have no problem taking this apart. Hell, I will after this post, and will save the solar panel and battery for another one of my projects.

I am not even posting a link to direct you to buy this. Don’t waste your money. You’ll be really sorry if you do.

It doesn’t even deserve my full rating quote.

Always on road trips or away from a outlet to charge your iPhone/iPod Touch? Well Tekkeon has created your solution! With its TekCharge, you can always keep your iPhone alive when you need it most, you know, right before you finish that last crappy level of Rolando 2?

I’ll start off first with the overall feeling of it. I absolutely love this little thing. This has charged my iPod from dead as a doornob, to fully charged 4 times! And because it only takes 35 minutes, why shouldn’t you have it? Lets go through the pros and cons

PROS

  1. Keeps all my devices charged (Charges anything USB)
  2. Small and compact
  3. Doubles as a recharger when your AA batteries die.
  4. Fast charger
  5. Lightweight and portable

CONS

  1. When you recharge your AA batteries…it takes 6 hours for four of em’

That’s pretty much it. This is a MUST BUY for everyone. I suggest buying a USB Splitter so you can charge multiple devices at once.

Love your iPod touch 1st gen? If your like me, and adore your old iPod, but wish it had a built in speaker, CYANICS has your answer. With a portable swing speaker, this case will have you rocking out loud to Metallica with style. You attach your iPod into this snug acyrillic case. With a built in battery, the speaker can last for 8 hours before recharging with its included charging cable (mini-usb).

First off, this case is a savior. The hard shell case is a bull. My friend knocked my iPod out of my hand and it fell 4 feet, and not even a scratch to the case, nor the iPod. Now, the case has many pros, and a few cons, so lets go through them.

PROS:

  1. It’s a speaker
  2. It has pull out tabs for easy landscape and portrait viewing
  3. Doesn’t mooch off your iPod’s battery
  4. Hours of earphone free music
  5. Hard shell case
  6. Extra headphone port if your tired of using your speakers

CONS:

  1. Recessed Charging port, so you cannot dock your iPod anymore
  2. Although it’s snug, grime and dirt can easily build up
  3. A tad bit bulky, thicker than all other iPhones and iPods

I’d say this is a must get for all you 1st gen users.
